Peggy Harrison nee Milner

Interviewer

Whaea Peggy talks about her passion for Te Reo Maori.  .  She tells of her acquisition of the language and her observations of the state of the language in Hauraki.  She refers to the different places that people can learn the language and how important the media, (television and radio) are contributing to language revitalization.  She acknowledges that the language is changing but that the language she uses is the language that she grew up with.  She refers to the Tiriti but admits that it was not the focus that is now.  She provides insight in her discussion on tikanga relating to women and tangihanga.  She refers to story telling as means of entertainment and way of warning children to be careful.  She has a strong opinion on value of taupaparapara and her remarks on Mana Wahine could only be told in Maori.
