At the far left, the third building (which has an outbuilding) is partly obscured. A stooped figure in the right foreground may be weeding the grave enclosure. |

Backhouse was resident in the Militia in Hamilton from 1865 and left the Militia in 1866. He then worked with the 4th Battalion. He then set up as a house and carriage painter in Hamilton and was based there until the late 1870s.
